Time and Eternity, a non-tactical NIS RPG
Intro
This is a new game by Nippon Ichi Software coming out in October. It is a new single player RPG with an interesting cell-shaded look so it has a unique blend of 3d and animated visual appeal.\r\n
Story
The story starts with a wedding. It gets more interesting from there as attackers decide to crash the wedding and the bride to be displays a quirky character trait of having split personalities. This even has its own gameplay effect.
Characters
The main character’s name is Toki. She is a ranged fighter using a musket and has a drake for a familiar. Her counterpart is Towa who gets in close with knives as her main form of attack.
Gameplay
The gameplay has the added interesting twist of Toki’s bizarre split personality leading to different play. Switching between the two is dependent on either leveling or a certain item you can pick up over the course of the game, so figuring out the most effective ways of utilizing their distinct traits is important.
Combat
The one interesting thing that stuck out to me is this game isn’t dependent on any skill stat or evasion abilities in combat to effect your characters dodging of attacks. This seems to be so simple that having not seen it much before seems a bit unusual. In the game you dodge by hitting left or right on the control timed with an incoming attack. Of course bad timing won’t be of any help, but will actually leave you open. It is still useful if you can master it.
We are working on a more comprehensive review right now, but we thought it would be best to give you a taste of what is coming.
