System Shock, still a much loved classic today. Now, we are seeing a reboot coming from Nightdive Studios with their associated Kickstarter. A 1994 game release, they are now working on adding a plethora of new feature and effects in game. Stephen Kick (CEO of Nightdive Studios) has stated that “As well as including members of the original team, such as famed concept artist Robb Waters, we have been expanding to include a number of industry veterans with years of AAA development experience having worked on games such as Fallout, Tomb Raider, Skyrim and Wasteland.” and “This is a full-fledged reboot of a classic game into something new.” The Kickstarter will be live beginning on June 28th, 2016, at 12 PM PST and has a fully playable demo available. The Kickstarter is going until Thu, Jul 28 and are looking for at least $900,000 to be pledged.

Robb Waters was the man who is helming the visuals of this game and was the concept artist for the original. He mentions that “When I was first approached by Nightdive, I was excited at the opportunity to revisit my original work. However, it has turned into much more than that. I have been able to completely re-envision the unfortunate occupants of Citadel Station in a way that technology would not permit in 1994.
The game is well known for pioneering audio and text logs scattered through the story that future I for one can\’t wait to see SHODAN in a modern era game. They have specifically stated that Terri Brosius reprises her role as SHODAN and they will have new dialogue. Chris Avellone who worked on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Planescape: Torment, and Fallout: New Vegas will help manage the story while trying to stay faithful to the original while building on it. They are using the Unity engine to build the game.
While the goal of the project is $900,000, they want to generate $1.7 million to add dismemberment, more upgradable weapons and better particle effects. I hope they can reach it so we can see the game at its best.
