TeamViewer security breach: How to assess the damage and prevent further attacks
#1
How can I assess and mitigate the security risks of a remote access incident via TeamViewer?

I recently discovered that my father allowed an unknown caller, who claimed to be from his ISP, to remotely access his laptop via TeamViewer. He terminated the connection after four minutes when the screen went black, but I am concerned that the attacker may have installed malware or stolen sensitive data from his computer. I am not very familiar with the technical aspects of hacking, and I wonder what steps I should take to protect his laptop and his online accounts. I have already backed up his documents and performed a full factory reset, but is that enough? I also changed his passwords, but he is unhappy about it. The caller tried to contact him again, but I refused to cooperate. How can I prevent this from happening again and ensure that his laptop is safe?
